Boston, MA – Altman Solon, the largest global strategy consulting firm focused exclusively on the Telecommunications, Media, and Technology (TMT) sectors, has hired Media & Entertainment expert Derek Powell to the position of director.
“Derek’s deep understanding of the Media & Entertainment industry will be a boon to our growing Media client base,” said Altman Solon CFO Steve Conway. “These markets are experiencing significant changes and we are pleased to have someone with Derek’s wisdom and experience as part of our talented Media team.”
Powell, who is based in Los Angeles, brings over 20 years of experience in the global Media & Entertainment industry. He helps film, television, music, and gaming clients design and develop new operating models, improve operational performance, and implement strategic growth and innovation plans.
Before joining Altman Solon, Derek served as a Senior Manager within the Strategy and Operations practice at Deloitte developing and implementing direct-to-consumer and business-to-business digital transformation projects for film studios, broadcasters, and content aggregators. Earlier in his career, Derek was SVP, Strategic Planning & Development for Sony’s DADC New Media Solutions overseeing the integration of content production and distribution. He was also SVP and General Manager of Global Digital Media Xchange (GDMX) – a post-production and distribution facility wholly owned by Warner Bros. after holding several global operational executive roles at WarnerMedia based in Los Angeles and Tokyo.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Derek earned his BS in Astronautical Engineering with military distinction from the U.S. Air Force Academy before earning his MBA from the University of California at Irvine. He also completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
